Got a hole to fill?

We’ve all been there. All of us have had a hole- maybe more like a lake- inside of us. An empty feeling that we tried to fill with things. Cars, money, clothes, shoes, purses, sex, drugs, alcohol. And more. We used these things to feel better. But they all drained out of the hole at the bottom of that lake. Drained faster than a bathtub. That’s because we tried to fill that hole with earthly things and ideas. Instead, we should have turned to God and asked Jesus to fill that emptiness inside.

God will send a famine in the land in the end times, and probably even before that. And I don’t mean a famine of food like in Genesis. But a famine of hearing God’s Word. People will be trying to fill the hole with anything and everything they can get their hands on but, guess what, will never be satisfied. They will do everything but listen to God and what His messengers are trying to tell the masses. Right? Read what God says in Amos 8:11-12 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it.” Not many people will be preaching the true Word of God. Your best defense is to read the Bible yourself, right? Read and pray that God reveal to you the meaning of His Word. God will reveal to you what you need in the moment and- as you grow in your faith- He will divulge more. For Solomon concludes at the end of his life, after all the money, the women, the power, that the whole duty of man is to obey God and follow His commandments. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13.

These people running here and there, from one side of the world to the other, will be in a world of hurting from the lack of Spiritual filling. And they won’t get it. Not until they turn to Christ for their filling. For Jesus himself is the bread of life. He tells us in John 6: 33-35, “(33) For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. (34) Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. (35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” Jesus is telling you flat-out that if you want to fill your hole, your emptiness, that deep abyss inside, then you have to go to Him, and believe in Him. Ask Jesus to cover you with His Blood, for that is why He was crucified! Not just because. Not just to do it. Why in the world would anyone go through that for nothing? Then, after you ask forgiveness, go forth and change your ways, change your thoughts, and follow God’s commandments for a fulfilling life. “Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” John 5:14. Jesus knows the temptations of this world and knows that we humans are not perfect. He knows that we will mess up, we will fail, but the most important thing is that we get back up and try again. Make honest efforts to be better. But as long as we do God’s will, our hole will stay full. The drain will be plugged.

So, please, if you are struggling to keep your hole full, turn to God. Quit trying to fill it with the things the world tells you that you need. It’s all lies. You don’t need any of it. You don’t. I don’t. I’ve been there. I may never be in your exact situation, but I’ve been in some situations that seemed impossible to me at the time. But I dug myself out from beneath the dirt I tried to fill my hole with. I did it by believing in God and myself. If you feel like you can’t do it, reach out to your local pastor. Try the local help center. Hit your knees and pray until you’ve emptied yourself before God and ask Him to fill you with His presence.
